3 lino cut blocks placed on a single piece of Japanese paper (和紙)and printed with a single press. The 3 designs were each derived from segments of my previous cut out work. I have put emphasis on the direction of line by cutting a pattern into the negative space. The effect is unique to lino cut.

A remix in illustrator of a previous water colour painting
Taken from scans, I have traced the image and re-drawn areas in illustrator to give contrast amongst the soft areas of the painting. Extended the painting and recomposed it.

echime-origami-paper-cut
This paper cut was inspired by the hard lines of Japanese origami. I used a flower made from paper as the subject to create a pattern design. The hard lines give it a different feel to that which is derived from the organic form.

I took this work a little further this time and was free with my initial application of paint. To get this effect I used a paper stencil and replicated the leaf pattern in the background. I then added the more solid overlays of patterns and shapes by painting with thicker paint.
